Will Shank, Co-Director (with Tim Drescher of Berkeley, CA) of Rescue Public Murals, is pleased to announce the successful completion of the group's first interventive treatment to save a public community mural. In October 2009, Eva Cockcroft's Homage to Seurat: La Grande Jatte in Harlem was officially rededicated.

The mural covers two 30 x 30 foot walls next to Hope Steven Garden, in Harlem (New York, USA), and it is the only surviving work of the muralist, who died in 1999. The restoration was led by artist Janet Braun-Reinitz in consultation with conservator Harriet Irgang-Alden of Rustin Levenson Art Conservation, with the participation of many local artists and volunteers. It represents the first effort of Rescue Public Murals to undertake a collaborative approach to preservation in a community environment.
