Abstract

This thesis deals with the technological aspects of manufacturing video magnetic tapes, their degradation induced by ageing and the analytical possibilities of characterising their fabric and varying stage of degradation. The applicability of the different analytical methods for an assay of the material fabric and quantitation of degradation stages should be evaluated at instance of naturally aged Sony V-60H half-inch video magnetic tapes in varying stages of degradation. The preparation of long-term ageing of magnetic tapes under controlled climate conditions forms the end.
